He forever saw the beauty in the outside world around him,
But never saw the beauty that he carried deep within.
He begged for peace that never seemed to come,
For he’d long forgotten that peace comes only from within.
He believed his light had dimmed,
And believed himself to be alone.
He drift alone or so he thought,
Through the darkness, through the night.

Fleeting moments throughout his life
He’d dance upon the shimmering lights.
The tighter he grasped,
The quicker they flickered
And then went out.
Why, he wondered, was the peace he sought
Always just a fleeting thought.
What he didn’t seem to get
Was that the peace he begged to find
Was within him all along.

The light he thought had dimmed
Was always still within.
Afraid to let it shine,
Afraid of what he’d find.
The man who lived without
Because he feared to go within.
