The only conditions in which I’ve never felt alone or lonely is while alone in nature.
I’ve often felt that gut-wrenching sense of loneliness and not belonging while in a crowd of people, or amongst family, or walking through a mall or down a street.
It was Saturday morning. I decided to go on a short drive to see if the river was frozen. I arrived, parked my car, got out and WOW! I immediately felt so alive, excited, energized, fulfilled, and peaceful! I took about a 45 minute stroll along the river. The sights and sounds of the birds, and every now and then the ice cracking and echoing. I felt I was in a beautiful silence while simultaneously engaged in meaningful conversation with all of my surroundings yet not a word was being said.
Solitude truly is where one discovers one is not alone.
