Fun In the Fog On The First

It was the last of the week, but first of the month, the first of the year. Welcome 2022, please- have a seat right here.

My over-the-top magical optimism about 2022 was put to the test before the year even showed up. The test had the nerve to continue through nearly the entire first day of 2022! Clearly too in tune with the fog that Mother Nature brought in that day, I could feel it smothering my joy, my hope, and my happy thoughts.

“Dummkopf!” (as my grandmother would say) I thought to myself. And with that, I jumped in my car and headed down to the river.

An instant mood boost! The fog was so thick and getting thicker by the minute. Eventually I could see almost nothing! I was in awe, in love, and didn’t want the moments to end or the fog to lift! I was reminded too, of a moment in time when my mom and I sat in the same location and under similar fog very early one September morning. We’d sat there many mornings prior, but that particular morning was foggy as heck. I’d taken some photos that morning too- oh how inspiring the fog can be!

Though I know full well that the one thing we have control over is our own thoughts, and therefore our own feelings, I still sometimes seem to conveniently forget. Particularly when I get wrapped up in my own self pity! We can shift our thoughts- our focus, at any given moment.

I’m glad that on that first day of the new year, I chose to climb out of the hole I was digging myself into and change my focus. I hope your focus has remained primarily positive as well- and if it hasn’t- well it’s never too late to turn that corner!

And with that, I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite quotes about fog since that’s what inspired me on that first day of 2022. I hope you enjoy.
