In honor of Women’s History Month this month I have chosen to highlight five of my favorite quotes from five of my favorite women in today’s world who are using their lives to write histories that will not soon be forgotten.
I stumbled across this quote a few years and it really struck me because I had myself in a bad situation at the time. I found myself watching this short video many times over. I also reread the quote often while in the process of trying to get myself out of the situation. This quote helped give me strength when I needed it most.
This quote from a fellow architect personality type Michelle Obama, is incredibly inspiring to me. It speaks absolute Truth to me and serves as a reminder that I should always choose to take the high road. I still sometimes fail at that but I’ve made a lot of progress over the years. Michelle Obama’s words serve as just the reminder and inspiration I need.
Here is a link to a brief excerpt from an interview that Michelle Obama did with Oprah Winfrey where she elaborates on what the quote means to her.
This Mel Robbins quote is one that I came across in her book, The Five Second Rule. For me, it serves as an inspiring reminder to speak my truth. Sometimes that means communicating kindness and gratitude and sometimes it means standing up for myself or others. Truths can be more difficult to speak than regular everyday talk. Truths are deeper and can have more impact.
I find this quote so energizing! It is akin to Theodore Roosevelt’s famous quote commonly referred to as The Man in the Arena and is worth a read! In 2017 a dear friend of mine shared a similar thought about me, in a letter he’d written to me and I was so moved by the sentiment. A similar quote, author unknown to me, goes, “You will never be criticized by someone who is doing more than you. You will only be criticized by someone doing less.”
These quotes, and especially Brené Brown’s, help put criticisms in perspective. As my mom used to say, “consider the source.” These quotes also help to keep my ego in check- how can I criticize another when I’m not even playing in the same field? (And really why would I criticize anyway but that’s besides the point.)
And finally, this quote. This one is it for me, with the way then Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris spoke it with both grace and power. For anyone to speak these words to the Vice President of the United States would be bold; but for these words to come from a such a powerhouse of a woman was so incredibly empowering and inspiring. Vice President Kamala Harris’s “Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking,” was and is an inspiration to speak not quietly or timidly, but rather with confidence, strength, poise, and purpose.
So there you have it. Five powerful quotes from five powerful women!
